Business & Sales Manager

I first came to Brighton in 2004 whilst studying for a degree that focused on the management of arts and events including their wider impact in terms of city regeneration and tourism. It was May at the start of the Festival, and I watched the Children’s Parade – thousands of children marching through the streets with hand-made puppets, lots of colour and excitement filled the city. It was this that made me fall in love with Brighton.

So, I moved straight down here after graduating and it became my home city where I choose to work and raise a family. I started my career managing business events in the city’s hotel venues before moving to the VisitBrighton Convention Bureau where I had the privilege of selling our wonderful city both nationally and internationally as a key business tourism destination.

I am proud to sell and promote Brighton’s main conference and exhibition centre, indeed the largest convention centre in the South East outside of London, and I would be delighted to support your organisation in securing your next event in our inspirational building and city by the sea!

I'm originally from a small town near Bath in the South West, but have lived in Sussex for over 25 years now and I love it here! Being near the coast, but also being near to Gatwick are two highlights of living in the South East, I am in Brighton near the beach to enjoy warm sunny British days (rare), but I'm also near an airport to take me to the European sun (where there is much) at all other times!

Regarding my working life I have always worked in Sales, starting in the travel industry and then moving onto events. I have been a part of the Conference Sales Team at the Brighton Centre since October 2006. That's how good it is here! My work involves being the first point of contact that clients have with the venue, submitting proposals, hosting client site visits, securing and contracting new and repeat conference business. My client account management is my strength and relationship building is what I enjoy and I believe when you enjoy something, you are happy and if you are happy, you thrive and do a good job.

I enjoy helping clients to understand how the venue can work for their event and working out the finer details to ensure they are confident that we can meet all their needs to ensure a successful event here.

We will be in contact not long after your event for all comments and feedback as we are always looking to improve.

Very pleased with our event which ran smoothly from all sides, production - catering. All staff were very helpful, and this is particularly reassuring as our event was the first of three planned at The Brighton Centre.

Sustainability and the Brighton Centre

Sustainability and the Brighton Centre

The Brighton Centre is committed to being a sustainable venue and improving the impact that we, and the events that we host, have on our local environment and the planet. We are working hard behind the scenes to look into ways to improve our carbon footprint.

There are many initiatives we have in place including:

  • Zero to Landfill waste
  • LED lighting throughout the venue
  • Water-saving systems in place in the toilets
  • Our energy is purchased from renewable sources
  • We use modern technology to reduce gas usage on our hot water and heating
  • Water fountains throughout the venue
  • Carpet floor tiles
  • Recycling bins throughout the venue

We encourage our clients to use local suppliers where possible, as this goes alongside our desire to host events as sustainable as possible to help protect our environment and the world around us.

Please see our supplier list here

Alongside our efforts, our contracted caterers, Be Seasoned (formally Kudos) are looking further into our food offering onsite to ensure we are making available more vegan and local options. They have the following initiatives in place:

  • No plastic straws onsite and no drinks sold in single use plastic bottles
  • We use wooden cutlery, palm leaf and cardboard food containers
  • Beef is off our menus and we operate 'meat free Mondays'
  • Our cooking oil is collected and recycled
  • We recycle our food waste, which then produces a high-quality compost material and a bio gas which is used as a heat source
  • We have a bronze Food for Life certification from the Soil Association and are working towards renewing this for the next year and towards our Silver certification.
  • Our water supplier is Life Water UK. Through the sales of water at the venue, they have built two water wells in third world country villages. See details here:
  • We work with local homeless charities including Fareshare, which we donate excess produce to avoid waste.

‘Food for Life Served Here: We’ve been awarded! We’re excited to let you know that our meals are accredited by the Soil Association’s “Food for Life Served Here” award. This award, from the UK’s leading food and farming charity, recognises our dedication to providing our visitors with catering that is freshly prepared onsite, made from sustainable ingredients and that promote good health. Each year we open our kitchen to the Soil Association’s inspection team who verify our commitment to using honest, local, seasonal produce. This means that the meat we serve can be traced back to the farm and meets or exceeds UK animal welfare standards. All our eggs are free range. What’s more, all ingredients used in our meals are free from additives, artificial trans-fats and will never be genetically modified. Many of the ingredients we use have been sourced locally, reducing the carbon footprint therefore environmental impact of your dining experience with us’.

We know that time is short and that we need to act fast but we also need to ensure any decisions or changes we make are the right ones, not only for us but also for our customers, clients and the environment. We will get there and welcome your co-operation.

Venue Security

Venue Security

As a large public venue, The Brighton Centre takes security extremely seriously. We have a number of security measures in place some that can be seen and some that cannot in order to minimise the possibility of an incident in our venue.

In order to achieve this, we work closely with counter terrorism Police who provide briefings and recommendations about security in our venue which are regularly assessed and enhanced as required.

We urge conference organisers to equally consider the security implications of their events and work closely with us to ensure the safety and security of their delegates and conference teams. You and your delegates play an essential role in keeping everyone safe and you can find some important guidance on this here:

What You Can Do | Counter Terrorism Policing

Lastly as part of your conference pre-planning and during the event please ask your delegates to remain vigilant at all times and if they have any concerns at all about anyone or anything that they feel could pose a potential threat please do not hesitate to report it to venue staff – you can never be too over cautious!
