Times, they are a-changin’

Howard3I’m sure many of you have already seen the news regarding our GM, Howard Barden, and his new role; we are delighting that he has been appointed Head of Tourism & Venues at Brighton and Hove City Council.

He will now have responsibility for Tourism & Venues a BHCC; a service that combines VisitBrighton alongside the Brighton Centre and Hove Centre. He succeeds Adam Bates who is leaving at the end of the year.

The changes come as our units are combined within the authority and a new restructure is put in place – it’s really exciting times for both VisitBrighton and the Brighton Centre, and we are looking forward to working together to ensure the best for our City.

Howard has over 25 year’s experience in tourism and venues and has been at the Brighton Centre since 1994. He took on the role of general manager here in 2011 and has been instrumental in bringing many high profile events to the city, including the Labour Party’s Annual Conference 2013. He’s overseen a transformation of the venue including the multi-million pound refresh of the interior event spaces, improved standards of customer service and a significant growth in business and bookings.

Howard’s hands-on experience of the City has clear advantages and it’s terrific we’ve got someone with the talent and know how to take on this important role. We’re all looking forward to working with Howard and are confident that under his watch Brighton will continue to thrive as one of the country’s top visitor destinations.

We’re all really sad to see Adam leave and cannot thank him enough for the changes he has made within our sector and his support in the transformation of the Brighton Centre BUT we are embracing the change and can’t think of anyone better for the role, Howard is truly passionate about Brighton and is looking forward to strengthening collaboration within the City, cementing our position as a serious contender on the conference and events business map.

Good luck Howard!
